Korea Airport Limousine Bus vs AREX: Which One Should You Actually Take?

Not sure whether to take the limousine bus or AREX subway from Incheon Airport? Here's the honest breakdown by price, time, luggage, and destination — so you pick the right one.

As soon as you step out of the arrivals hall at Incheon Airport, nearly every traveler faces the same dilemma. Should you take the limousine bus or the AREX train? Both options are signposted, but which is faster, cheaper, or more convenient with lots of luggage? I've tried both and broken it down by situation.

If you're traveling alone with light luggage, take the AREX Express (43 minutes, ₩13,000). If you have lots of luggage or want to go directly to Myeongdong, Gangnam, or Hongdae, take the limousine bus (₩10,000–₩17,000). During rush hour, the bus can take up to 2 hours, so make sure you have enough time.

AREX vs Limousine Bus

AREX (Airport Railroad)

AREX is a train that runs from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station. There are two types, and not knowing the difference can lead to unexpected delays.

Express Train runs nonstop from Incheon Airport T1 and T2 to Seoul Station. It takes 43 minutes from T1 and costs ₩13,000 for adults. It runs every 30 minutes, and seats are reserved, so you can sit comfortably. However, if you have multiple large suitcases, it can be a bit inconvenient as you need to place them next to your seat or on the overhead rack.

All-Stop Train stops at all intermediate stations. It takes about 53–56 minutes to reach Seoul Station, and the fare is distance-based (around ₩4,150–₩4,950). It runs every 6 minutes, but you'll likely need to transfer at Seoul Station to reach your final destination. If your accommodation is near intermediate stations like Hongdae or Gongdeok, this option is much more advantageous.

The last AREX Express train departs at 23:51 from T1 and 23:00 from T2. The last All-Stop train runs until 23:39 from T1. However, the timetable was updated after December 2025, so check the official website for the latest schedule before you travel.

Limousine Bus

The limousine bus is a premium bus service that goes directly from Incheon Airport to various areas in Seoul. With over 20 routes, there's a good chance there's a stop near your accommodation. Your luggage is stored in the undercarriage, so there's no need to navigate stairs or make transfers.
Fares range from ₩10,000 to ₩17,000 depending on the route. It usually takes 70–110 minutes, but during rush hour (7–9 AM, 5–8 PM), it can take up to 2 hours. Late-night routes vary by line, so be sure to check before you travel.

Guide for Different Situations

Traveling Alone, One Suitcase

Take the AREX Express. You'll reach Seoul Station in 43 minutes, and from there, you can transfer to the subway once or twice to reach most areas in Seoul. The biggest advantage is that it is unaffected by traffic, so arrival time is predictable. Even with additional subway fares from Seoul Station, the total cost is around ₩12,000–₩15,000, not much different from the limousine bus. Note that Seoul Station is also a KTX departure point. If you're planning to travel to cities like Busan, Gyeongju, or Gwangju, check out KTX Rail Pass vs Individual Tickets to see which is more beneficial.

Family Trip / Lots of Luggage

I recommend the limousine bus. The driver will load your luggage into the undercarriage, so there's no need to deal with stairs or transfers. If you're traveling with kids or elderly parents, you can sit comfortably on the bus until you reach your destination. If you can avoid rush hour, the most stable travel times are before 9 AM or between 3–4 PM on weekdays.

Myeongdong/Dongdaemun Direction

Limousine bus 6001 goes directly to Myeongdong, Seoul Station, and Dongdaemun. The fare is about ₩10,000, and you can get off right in front of Myeongdong. While you can also reach Myeongdong by transferring at Seoul Station if you take the AREX, the bus is much more convenient if you have luggage.

Gangnam/Hongdae Direction

If you're heading to Gangnam, limousine bus 6020 goes directly to Gangnam Station, Yeoksam Station, Gyodae Station, Banpo, and the Express Bus Terminal. The fare is ₩17,000, and it takes about 90–110 minutes during normal hours. If you take AREX to Gangnam, you'll need to transfer to Line 9 or Line 2 at Seoul Station or Gongdeok Station, which takes considerably more time.
If you're heading to Hongdae, you can take the AREX All-Stop train directly to Hongik University Station. Limousine bus 6015 also stops at Hongdae and Sinchon, so choose based on your accommodation location.

Late Night/Early Morning Arrival

The last AREX Express train departs at 23:51 from T1 and 23:00 from T2. If you arrive after midnight, check the late-night limousine bus routes first, and if none are available, KakaoT taxi is a realistic option. Late-night taxi fares to downtown Seoul usually range from ₩70,000 to ₩100,000. If your schedule is flexible, consider renting a car in Korea. Picking up a rental car at the airport eliminates late-night transportation worries.
TIP: The last AREX Express train departs at 23:51 from T1, but you might miss it if your flight is delayed. If you're scheduled to arrive just before midnight, check the limousine bus's last departure time in advance and install the KakaoT app before you leave.

Traveling with Seniors

I strongly recommend the limousine bus. The subway involves going down stairs and more stairs at each transfer. The bus has a short distance to the boarding gate, and you can sit comfortably until you reach your destination. Even if it costs a bit more, the comfort is well worth it.

Main Limousine Bus Routes

Route Main Stops Fare Travel Time (Normal)
6001 Seoul Station, Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, Cheongnyangni ₩10,000 About 70–80 minutes
6015 Sinchon, Hongdae, Mapo ₩10,000 About 70–90 minutes

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is cheaper, the limousine bus or AREX?

The AREX All-Stop train is the cheapest at ₩4,150–₩4,950. However, additional subway transfer fares apply after Seoul Station. The limousine bus costs ₩10,000–₩17,000 but takes you directly near your destination, so the total cost difference might be smaller than expected.

What's the difference between AREX Express and regular AREX?

The Express is a nonstop train from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station (43 minutes, ₩13,000 for adults). It runs every 30 minutes and has reserved seating. The All-Stop train stops at intermediate stations like Digital Media City, Hongdae, and Gongdeok, taking about 53–56 minutes to Seoul Station (distance-based fare). If your destination is near an intermediate station, the All-Stop train is much more advantageous.

What transportation should I use if I arrive at the airport late at night?

The last AREX Express train departs at 23:51 from T1, and the last All-Stop train at 23:39. If you arrive after midnight, check the late-night limousine bus routes first, and if none are available, use a KakaoT taxi. Late-night taxi fares to downtown Seoul are typically ₩70,000–₩100,000.

Which is more convenient if I have a lot of luggage?

The limousine bus. The driver will load and unload your luggage from the undercarriage. There's no need to navigate stairs or search for escalators like in the subway. If you have more than two suitcases or are traveling with children or seniors, the bus is much more convenient.

Is there a limousine bus to Gangnam?

Yes, there is. Route 6020 goes through Gangnam Station, Yeoksam Station, Gyodae Station, Banpo, and the Express Bus Terminal. The fare is ₩17,000, and it takes about 90–110 minutes during normal hours. Be sure to allow extra time during rush hour.

Can I use a T-money card on AREX?

You can use a T-money card on the AREX All-Stop train. For the Express train, you need to purchase a separate reserved seat ticket. T-money cards cannot be used on the limousine bus.

Which is more reliable, the bus or the subway?

AREX is much more reliable. It is unaffected by traffic, so travel time is always consistent. If you need to meet a connecting flight or have a meeting where timing is crucial, definitely choose AREX. When I travel alone, I always take the AREX Express. It's 43 minutes to Seoul Station, and from there, I can transfer once or twice to reach most places. However, when traveling with family or lots of luggage, I opt for the limousine bus.
